Man On Fire

3/5 stars
Man on fire
Denzel Washington, Dakota Fanning, Marc Anthony
More B-movies from the oscar winner
the story is old news: run down alchoholic meets little girl who teaches him to love again. but somehow the acting combined with an amazing camera can make it seem like the most fresh idea in exsistence. Denzel washington(Proving once again that he can give oscar worthy performances in less than oscar worthy movies.) and Dakota Fanning(the new young superstar.) are excelllent chemistry, as are the rest of the cast(except Marc Anthony but it overlookable due to his minor part and the fact that hes a singer not an actor.) ready to wrap us into the overwhelming mytho. quite personaly i think it would have been a better movie if they had kept it a drama and left out all the action movie crap, seeing as how thats what spawns most of the problems. first off the movie is way to gory for its own good, so much that it disturbs me,the one who can watch millions of holocast tapes without flinching. second this movie could stand to be about 30 minutes shorter, starting with the pointless 20 minute hospital scene packed with dream like camera as nuseating as it was bad. Finally what the deal with the ending? a movie crafted with suvh skill and emotion ends up feiling so bland and empty. but these problems cant ruin a perfectly good saturday night veiwing.
